The importance of pads in your skateboard's geometry and comfort

Inserted between your truck baseplate and the wood of your deck, skateboard pads play a leading role in the mechanical adjustment of your setup. Their primary function is to modify ride height or absorb kinetic energy upon landing. By properly configuring your pads, you optimize your skateboard's behavior while protecting your deck's wood against stress cracks around the mounting holes.

Technical specifics: Riser, Shock Pads, and Wheelbite

Choosing your pads relies on precise criteria dictated by your wheel diameter and riding style:

• Riser Pads (Rigid): Made of hard plastic, they serve to raise your deck. This is essential if you use large wheels or ride with very loose trucks (*loose*) to eliminate wheelbite (abrupt locking of the wheel against the board).
• Shock Pads (Dampeners): Designed from soft rubber, they act as shock absorbers. They absorb vibrations from rough asphalt and dissipate the shock wave upon landing, thus protecting your ankles.
• Hardware adjustment: Adding pads changes the required configuration. Don't forget to adjust the length of your hardware (1" or 1.25") to comfortably pass through the deck, pad, and baseplate combo.
