Buying Guide: Choosing Your Skate Tool

Why is a Skate Tool essential?

Whether you're a beginner or an experienced rider, the skate tool is the accessory that will save you in many situations. Compact and all-in-one, it conveniently replaces a bulky toolbox. At Independent Skateshop, we consider it the first essential investment after purchasing your skateboard deck.

The essentials of a good multi-tool

A complete tool should allow you to manage the entire assembly and adjustments of your setup:

  • 13mm Wrench: For tightening or loosening your axle nuts.
  • 10mm Wrench: For your truck hardware.
  • 14mm Wrench: For your Kingpin nut (adjusting your bushings).
  • Screwdriver (Phillips or Allen): Essential for attaching your deck.
  • Re-threader (Optional): Some high-end models include a re-threader to repair the thread of your axles after an impact.

The skateshop's opinion

Don't neglect the quality of your tool. A low-end model with soft metal heads will eventually "strip" your bolts, making any maintenance impossible. A robust tool is an investment that lasts your entire skateboarding "career".

If you plan to assemble your complete setup, make sure you have a tool adapted to the type of hardware you are using (Allen or Phillips). Need advice on assembling your decks or choosing your skateboard wheels? Contact our team, we are here to help you ride with peace of mind.
